WELCOME, BIXBY FAMILIES!
Listed below are descriptions of the various PTA and district-wide Bixby events and happenings that we hold throughout the year. We hope this list helps you understand the huge variety of Bixby events, and gives you a good idea of your year-round participation choices.
Kinder Meet & Greet: Held prior to school starting TK and Kinder students and their families are invited to Bixby to meet their teacher and other families and see the classroom!
Family Fun Night: Held after school/evening — An evening of fun for all Bixby families — Gather together on the lawn near lunch benches. Bring a blanket, chairs, some dinner and your family. Meet other families and enjoy fun events: Music, ice cream bar, raffle, and more!
Harvest Festival: Fall event. At the end of the school day, students can dress up in costume (after class) and join classmates and faculty in playing festival games for prizes and spending Beaver Buckaroos on popcorn or other goodies.
Teacher Appreciation Week/Day: Once a year (SO not often enough!) the PTA hosts a themed lunch for the teachers, along with gifts and awards. Students are encouraged to bring special items during the week working up to Teacher Appreciation Day (e.g., a flower on Monday, a picture on Tuesday, etc.). Information will be sent home ahead of time.
Fifth Grade Promotion: Once a year in a morning in June our 5th graders will be promoted to middle school. It is sad yet exciting time!
Monthly PTA Meetings: 6:15 pm, usually on the second Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise indicated. Skip making dinner and join us for pizza! You don’t have to be a PTA member to attend the meetings and gain helpful information. If you are not currently a member of the PTA, we do welcome you to join — The cost is minimal, and the more PTA members that Bixby has, the more our Bixby Voice can be heard!
Bixby Morning Assemblies: Mondays at 8am, all students gather with their classes on the playground. Our principal gets us motivated, and various classes perform opening presentations.
Spirit Days: Bixby’s Student Council decides on Spirit Days and themes each school year. During school, on designated days, students have the opportunity to dress out of the ordinary. Some examples of Spirit Days are: No uniform required on Free Dress Day; themes may include Twin Day; Sports Day; Pajama Day; Western Day; Blast to the Past Day, and more.
Back to School Night: LBUSD annual event held after school/evening, in September. This is a night for parents to visit their children’s classes, meet the teachers and staff, and learn about the Bixby Way! Also time to sign up and learn about VIPS (volunteering in public schools) and Room Rep volunteer time.
Science Fair: This is a LBUSD annual Science event promoting science. Students follow guidelines and perform science fair experiments. A percentage of students’ projects are chosen to be shown at a later date at the LBUSD District Science Fair. These are also on display at Bixby’s Open House in the Bixby Cafeteria.
Open House: This is LBUSD annual after-school event. Here’s a chance for all parents to see what their children have accomplished through the school year! Visit the classrooms and see your child’s projects and development.
Smarter Balanced Assessment: LBUSD annual standardized testing is performed statewide for students in grades three through five in the areas of language arts, mathematics and science, and is held after approximately 85% of the instructional year is completed.
